Animal AWARE (Animal Welfare Association - Rescue/Education) is a non-profit, non-governmental charitable organization for the rescue and welfare of abandoned or abused animals. It was founded in 1998 in Guatemala by Xenii Nielsen (USA), Gina Illescas (Guatemala), and Pamela Hirst- Prins (England).
Our mission:
Perform spay / neuter days and vaccination clinics that are affordable for local people with scarce resources.
Animal AWARE could not continue without the vital help provided by volunteers! With over 300 dogs and almost 100 cats we always need help with anything from building dog-runs, grooming, walking the dogs, spending quality time with the animals and helping out with our Animal AWARE's educational programs. From time to time we also require help with our spay/neuter and rabies vaccination clinics, garage sales, and other fund-raising events.
Why not gain some valuable experience and at the same time do something extremely worthwhile by helping out at Animal AWARE?
We need your help to put a stop to the suffering of dogs and cats in Guatemala! We are happy to receive both financial donations and donations in kind. At present we need metal food bowls, flea treatments, towels, blankets, building materials new or used, medical instruments, veterinary equipment, and a truck to transport our animals.
A little money goes a long way!
For example:
US$100.00 makes a pen for 4 dogs, or spays 5 (female) animals.
US$50 pays the salary of one dog walker for a week.
US$40 provides 2 multiple vaccinations.
US$10 vaccinates a new arrival.
